Frequently Asked

Your questions,
answered.

Acne starts when oil and dead skin cells clog the skin's pores. This traps bacteria inside the pores, causing swelling, redness, and pus. There are different stages of acne, and based on its severity it can be treated with creams, gels, topical antibiotics, oral antibiotics, and oral isotretinoin.
You can get your prescription of topical agents for mild acne from pharmacists. While we carry medication for all stages of acne, a prescription from your health care provider is required for any moderate to severe cases.
Creams and gels are topical agents used to treat mild acne. These usually contain a drying agent such as benzoyl peroxide, which helps clear excess oil and dead skin cells.
Topical antibiotics, which are sometimes combined with drying agents, are used for moderate acne. These help to kill acne-causing bacteria and dry any excess oil on the skin. If the product is right for your skin, you should start seeing improvement in four to six weeks. Although it can take two to three months or longer to see clearing.
Oral isotretinoin, which is a systemic retinoid, or a combination of oral antibiotics and topical therapy are usually very effective at clearing up severe acne such as large areas of inflamed spots.
Topical products can be helpful in some cases for keeping acne under control, although oral medication and birth control pills are also an option. Hormonal medication is available for order with a prescription from your health care provider.
