Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) is used to relieve symptoms associated with an Overactive Bladder, such as urinary urgency (a need to urinate right away), urinary frequency, leakage, or urge incontinence (leaking or wetting caused by an unstoppable urge to urinate).

Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder. It helps to reduce bladder spasms, the urge to pass urine, and the frequency of urination.

Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) may be available under multiple brand names and/or in several different forms. Any specific brand name of Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) may not be available in all of the forms or approved for all of the conditions discussed here. As well, some forms of Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) may not be used for all of the conditions discussed here.

Mictoryl Pediatric Dosage

The recommended adult dose of Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) is 30 mg taken by mouth once daily. If this dose is well tolerated and symptoms have not improved, your doctor may recommend increasing the dose to 45 mg taken once daily. The maximum daily dose is 45 mg.

The 30 mg and 45 mg capsules may be taken with or without food. They release the medication gradually and should be swallowed whole with some water. Do not crush or chew the capsules.

Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) is available as 5 mg tablets for children and adolescents. The recommended dose for children is based on body weight, usually calculated by your doctor as 0.8 mg per kilogram of body weight per day, divided into two daily doses. The maximum recommended dose for children or adolescents is 30 mg, taken as 15 mg in the morning and 15 mg in the evening.

The 5 mg tablet form of Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) is affected by food and should be taken at least 1 hour before meals. The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.

Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

It is important to take Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Mictoryl Pediatric Side Effects

  • dizziness
  • Dry Mouth
  • fatigue
  • flushing

Each orange size 2, modified-release capsule contains 45 mg of white to off-white Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) hydrochloride pellets (equivalent to 40.92 mg Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine)). Nonmedicinal ingredients: ammonio methacrylate copolymer type A, ammonio methacrylate copolymer type B, citric acid, gelatin, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, methacrylic acid-methyl methacrylate copolymer (1:1), methacrylic acid-methyl methacrylate copolymer (1:2), povidone, red iron oxide E172, talc, titanium dioxide E171, triethyl citrate, and yellow iron oxide E172.

Each white, lenticular shape tablet contains 5 mg of Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) hydrochloride (equivalent to 4.55 mg Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine)). Nonmedicinal ingredients: acacia gum, calcium carbonate, cellulose powdered, glucose monohydrate, kaolin heavy, lactose monohydrate, macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate, silica colloidal anhydrous, sucrose, talc, and titanium dioxide E171.

Mictoryl Pediatric Contraindications

Do not take Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) if you:

  • are allergic to Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) or any ingredients of the medication
  • have a bowel obstruction
  • have or may have urinary retention (blocked urine flow)
  • have Myasthenia Gravis
  • have decreased muscle tone in the intestines
  • have severe Ulcerative Colitis (inflammation of the digestive tract)
  • have toxic megacolon (dilated large intestine)
  • have angle-closure Glaucoma
  • have moderate to severely reduced liver function
  • have a fast heartbeat
  • have a rare hereditary problem of galactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or Lapp lactase deficiency
  • have a rare hereditary problem of fructose intolerance or do not produce enough of the enzyme sucrose-isomaltase

Mictoryl Pediatric Warnings

Before you begin using a medication, be sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions or Allergies you may have, any medications you are taking, whether you are pregnant or breast-feeding, and any other significant facts about your health. These factors may affect how you should use Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine).

Abnormal heart rhythms: Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) may cause a heart rhythm disturbance called QT prolongation. If you have a history of QT prolongation or are taking certain medications (e.g., Amiodarone, Sotalol), discuss with your doctor how Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine), and whether any special monitoring is needed.

Glaucoma: Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) may cause the symptoms of glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) to become worse. If you have glaucoma, discuss with your doctor how Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine), and whether any special monitoring is needed. Report any changes in vision to your doctor as soon as possible while you are taking Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine).

Kidney function: If you have reduced kidney function or Kidney Disease, discuss with your doctor how Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine), and whether any special monitoring is needed.

Lactose intolerance: Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) contains lactose. If you have galactose intolerance (galactosemia, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or Lapp lactase deficiency) you should not take Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine). Talk to your doctor about other alternatives.

Liver function:  If you have liver problems, discuss with your doctor how Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine), and whether any special monitoring is needed.

Pregnancy: Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while taking Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine), contact your doctor immediately.

Breast-feeding: It is not known if Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) passes into breast milk. If you are a breast-feeding mother and are taking Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine), it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breast-feeding.

Children: Children generally develop bladder control by the age of 5 years. Mictoryl Pediatric (Propiverine) is not recommended for children earlier than 5 years of age.
