Orilissa How to Take

Orilissa (Elagolix) belongs to the class of medications known as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists. It is used to treat the moderate-to-severe pain that occurs with Endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a painful condition where tissue that normally forms the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus. These tissues go through the same changes during the menstrual cycle as the tissue in the uterus. These changes are caused by the hormone estrogen. Orilissa (Elagolix) works by blocking the effects of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which in turn, reduces the amount of estrogen produced by the body.

Orilissa (Elagolix) may be available under multiple brand names and/or in several different forms. Any specific brand name of Orilissa (Elagolix) may not be available in all of the forms or approved for all of the conditions discussed here. As well, some forms of Orilissa (Elagolix) may not be used for all of the conditions discussed here.

Your doctor may have suggested Orilissa (Elagolix) for conditions other than those listed in these drug information articles. If you have not discussed this with your doctor or are not sure why you are taking Orilissa (Elagolix), speak to your doctor. Do not stop taking Orilissa (Elagolix) without consulting your doctor.

Do not give Orilissa (Elagolix) to anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms as you do. It can be harmful for people to take Orilissa (Elagolix) if their doctor has not prescribed it.
