For adults and children older than 12 years, the recommended dose ranges from 100 mg to 200 mg daily.

For children under 3 years of age, your doctor will recommend the appropriate dose.
Children under 6 years of age should not be given Soflax (Docusate-sodium) unless recommended by a doctor.
Swallow the capsules whole with water or fruit juice. The syrup or drops should be given in 120 mL (about ½ cup) of milk or fruit juice, or in infant formula to mask the bitter taste of the medication. Use an oral syringe or dropper to measure each dose of the syrup or drops.
Many things can affect the dose of a medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
It is important to take Soflax (Docusate-sodium) exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. Each orange, oval, soft gelatin capsule, identified "PMS" on one side and "100" on the other, contains docusate sodium USP 100 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: FD&C Red No.40, FD&C Yellow No. 6, gelatin, glycerin,
polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, sorbitol, and water.
200 mg
Each orange, oblong, soft gelatin capsule, identified "PMS" on one side and "200" on the other, contains docusate sodium USP 200 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: citric acid, FD&C Red No. 10, FD&C Red No. 40, gelatin, glycerin, parabens, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, sorbitol, and water.
Drops
10 mg/mL drops
Each mL contains10 mg of docusate sodium USP. Nonmedicinal ingredients: glycerin, methylparaben, propylparaben, sucrose (225 mg/mL), sodium cyclamate, sodium citrate, citric acid, alcohol (0.01 mL/mL), FD&C Red No.2, polysorbate,
artificial vanilla flavour, and purified water.
4 mg/mL syrup

Medications other than those listed above may interact with Soflax (Docusate-sodium). Tell your doctor or prescriber about all prescription, over-the-counter (non-prescription), and herbal medications you are taking. Also tell them about any supplements you take. Since caffeine, alcohol, the Nicotine from cigarettes, or street drugs can affect the action of many medications, you should let your prescriber know if you use them.
Before you begin using a medication, be sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions or Allergies you may have, any medications you are taking, whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and any other significant facts about your health. These factors may affect how you should use Soflax (Docusate-sodium).
Diabetes: Liquid forms of the medication (especially syrup) may contain large amounts of sugar.
General: If you experience a sudden change in your bowel movements that lasts for 2 weeks or more, do not take Soflax (Docusate-sodium) without first talking to your doctor. If you take docusate sodium for one week and it does not seem to help with your constipation or if rectal bleeding occurs, stop taking Soflax (Docusate-sodium) and contact your doctor.
Medical conditions: Docusate sodium is not recommended for people who have Appendicitis, symptoms of appendicitis (e.g., nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain), bleeding from the rectum, undiagnosed bleeding, Congestive Heart Failure, high blood pressure, fecal impaction, or intestinal obstruction.
Overuse and prolonged use: Overusing or using docusate sodium for long periods of time may cause your bowels to become dependent on the medication. Unless recommended by your doctor, do not use Soflax (Docusate-sodium) for longer than one week.
Pregnancy: Soflax (Docusate-sodium) should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while taking Soflax (Docusate-sodium), contact your doctor.
Breast-feeding: It is not known if docusate sodium passes into breast milk. If you are a breast-feeding mother and are taking Soflax (Docusate-sodium), it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breast-feeding.
Children: Laxatives such as docusate sodium should not be given to children under 6 years of age unless recommended by a doctor.
