Olumiant Indication

Olumiant (Baricitinib) belongs to the class of medications called disease-modifying antirheumatic agents. Olumiant (Baricitinib) is used alone or in combination with Methotrexate to reduce the signs and symptoms of moderate to severely active Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). It is used when treatment with one or more disease-modifying antirheumatic medications has not provided enough relief.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease. This means that the body's immune system fails to recognize its own tissue, and views it as a foreign invader. In the case of RA, the immune system attacks the joints and tissue, causing long-term damage.

Olumiant (Baricitinib) is believed to work by interfering with the activity of an enzyme that sends inflammatory signals in the body called Janus Kinase. Olumiant (Baricitinib) attaches to this enzyme which helps to reduce swelling and joint tenderness in people with RA.

Olumiant (Baricitinib) may be available under multiple brand names and/or in several different forms. Any specific brand name of Olumiant (Baricitinib) may not be available in all of the forms or approved for all of the conditions discussed here. As well, some forms of Olumiant (Baricitinib) may not be used for all of the conditions discussed here.

Your doctor may have suggested Olumiant (Baricitinib) for conditions other than those listed in these drug information articles. If you have not discussed this with your doctor or are not sure why you are taking Olumiant (Baricitinib), speak to your doctor. Do not stop taking Olumiant (Baricitinib) without consulting your doctor.

Do not give Olumiant (Baricitinib) to anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms as you do. It can be harmful for people to take Olumiant (Baricitinib) if their doctor has not prescribed it.

Olumiant Dosage

If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
