What is Candesartan?

Candesartan is a prescriptional anti-hypertensive medicine belonging to the category of drugs known as angiotensin-receptor blockers. It can be prescribed alone or in combination with other drugs to treat high blood pressure.

What are the uses of Candesartan?

Candesartan is used to treat hypertension. It alters the action of various chemicals responsible for increasing blood pressure. Angiotensin is one such natural chemical produced in the body. The produced angiotensin attaches itself to receptors, which causes muscle cells to contract and blood vessels to become narrow. All these changes increase your blood pressure.Candesartan blocks the attachment of angiotensin to the receptors, thus inhibiting its action. This, in turn, results in the expansion of blood vessels and allows the blood to flow more smoothly, lowering your blood pressure.
Candesartan is mainly used in the following conditions:

  • Blood pressure management
  • Treatment of Heart failure
  • Myocardial infarction (heart attack)
  • Cardiovascular disorder
  • Diabetic neuropathy (kidney disease in people with diabetes and high blood pressure)

How do you use Candesartan?

  • It is mainly available as a tablet, and it is taken orally with or without food, usually 1 or 2 times or as prescribed by your physician.
  • Read the patient information leaflet available from the pharmacist before you start taking Candesartan, and each time you get your refill. Ask your queries to the doctor or pharmacist in case of any doubts.
  • Try to take this tablet daily at the same time.
  • Do not use this medication less or more frequently than prescribed by your doctor.
  • Do not stop taking this medication abruptly without consulting your doctor.

If You Miss the Dose.

  • If you happen to miss a dose of Candesartan, take the missed dose as soon as you remember.
  • However, if it is almost time for the next dose, do not take the missed dose and continue with your next scheduled dose.
  • Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed dose.
