Anapen Junior How to Take

Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) belongs to a family of medications called sympathomimetics. These medications resemble chemicals that are normally found in our bodies and are released during stressful situations, such as when we are scared, anxious, or angry.

Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) is used for the emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions (Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction)) to insect bites, insect stings, food, medication, as well as other allergens (e.g., latex). During a severe allergic reaction, blood pressure can become dangerously low, breathing can become difficult, and the face and throat can swell. Others signs and symptoms can include Hives, flushing, fast heart rate, paleness, weakness, dizziness, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and Diarrhea. Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) works to reverse these effects.

Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) may be available under multiple brand names and/or in several different forms. Any specific brand name of Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) may not be available in all of the forms or approved for all of the conditions discussed here. As well, some forms of Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) may not be used for all of the conditions discussed here.

Your doctor may have suggested Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) for conditions other than those listed in these drug information articles. Anapen Junior Dosage

The recommended dose of Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) is based on your body weight, your risk of experiencing a serious allergic reaction, and your ability to tolerate the medication. The usual dose for children and adults who weigh 30 kg or more is 0.3 mg. For children who weigh 15 kg to 30 kg, the dose is 0.15 mg. For children who weigh less than 15 kg, other forms of Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) may be prescribed.

The medication is injected into the thigh with use of a special automatic device that resembles a pen. To use the pen, first remove it from the carton. Activate the pen by removing the safety cap. Then, jab the tip of the pen against the thigh and hold it there for 10 seconds. This will activate the plunger and the needle will be pushed into the thigh muscle to inject a dose of Anapen Junior (Epinephrine). There will be some solution remaining in the pen after injection. Seek immediate medical attention at the same time. If your symptoms have not improved within 10 minutes, use another dose if you have a second pen.

It is important to use Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is also important to know how to use the pen properly. If you are not sure, ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist for a demonstration.

Many things can affect the dose of a medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are using the medication without consulting your doctor.

The pen should be stored in its original tube (to protect it from light) at room temperature. Do not use it if the solution is brown or has particles in it. Keep Anapen Junior (Epinephrine) out of the reach of children.

Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (e.g. down the sink or in the toilet) or in household garbage. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications that are no longer needed or have expired.
