Many medications can cause side effects. A side effect is an unwanted response to a medication when it is taken in normal doses. Side effects can be mild or severe, temporary or permanent.

The side effects listed below are not experienced by everyone who takes Apo Fluconazole. If you are concerned about side effects, discuss the risks and benefits of Apo Fluconazole with your doctor.

The following side effects have been reported by at least 1% of people taking Apo Fluconazole. Many of these side effects can be managed, and some may go away on their own over time.

Contact your doctor if you experience these side effects and they are severe or bothersome. Your pharmacist may be able to advise you on managing side effects.

• Diarrhea
• headache
• nausea
• stomach pain
• vomiting

Although most of these side effects listed below don't happen very often, they could lead to serious problems if you do not seek medical attention.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

• irregular heartbeat
• signs of liver problems (e.g., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes, dark urine, pale stools)
• skin rash or itching

Stop taking the medication and seek immediate medical attention if any of the following occur:

• signs of a Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction) (Hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the face, tongue, or throat)
• symptoms of a severe skin rash (such as blistering, peeling, a rash covering a large area of the body, a rash that spreads quickly, or a rash combined with Fever or discomfort)

Some people may experience side effects other than those listed. Check with your doctor if you notice any symptom that worries you while you are taking Apo Fluconazole.

Do not take Apo Fluconazole if you:

• are allergic to fluconazole or to any of the ingredients of the medication
• are taking cisapride, terfendine, erythromycin, Pimozide, or quinidine

There may be an interaction between fluconazole and any of the following:

• alpha blockers (e.g., Alfuzosin, Doxazosin, Silodosin, Tamsulosin)
• Amiodarone
• amphotericin B
• anti-psychotics (e.g., Chlorpromazine, Clozapine, Haloperidol, olanzaine, Quetiapine, Risperidone)
• Apixaban

If you are taking any of these medications, speak with your doctor or pharmacist. Depending on your specific circumstances, your doctor may want you to:

• stop taking one of the medications,
• change one of the medications to another,
• change how you are taking one or both of the medications, or
• leave everything as is.

An interaction between two medications does not always mean that you must stop taking one of them. Speak to your doctor about how any drug interactions are being managed or should be managed.

Medications other than those listed above may interact with Apo Fluconazole. Tell your doctor or prescriber about all prescription, over-the-counter (non-prescription), and herbal medications that you are taking. Also tell them about any supplements you take. Since caffeine, decongestants, alcohol, the Nicotine from cigarettes, or street drugs can affect the action of many medications, you should let your prescriber know if you use them.

Before you begin using a medication, be sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions or Allergies you may have, any medications you are taking, whether you are pregnant or breast-feeding, and any other significant facts about your health. These factors may affect how you should use Apo Fluconazole.

Allergies: Be cautious in taking fluconazole if you are allergic to other "azoles" such as ketoconazole or itraconazole. If you develop symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as skin rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, seek immediate medical attention.

Driving and operating heavy machinery: Fluconazole may occasionally cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how Apo Fluconazole affects you.

Kidney function: Decreased kidney function or Kidney Disease can cause Apo Fluconazole to build up in the body, causing side effects. People with kidney disease or reduced kidney function should discuss with their doctor how Apo Fluconazole may affect their medical condition, how their medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Apo Fluconazole, and whether any special monitoring is needed.

Liver damage: In rare cases, Apo Fluconazole may cause liver damage in people with serious medical conditions. Your doctor may monitor you with regular blood tests to check for side effects while you are taking fluconazole. If you notice signs of liver damage such as abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark or amber urine, or pale stools, contact your doctor right away.

QT prolongation: In rare cases, Apo Fluconazole can affect the electrical activity of the heart and cause a condition known as QT prolongation. Your doctor will monitor your heart rhythm regularly while you are taking Apo Fluconazole with a test called an electrocardiogram (ECG). You should not take Apo Fluconazole if your ECG already shows that you have QT prolongation or if you are taking a medication that can cause QT prolongation.

Pregnancy: Apo Fluconazole should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while taking Apo Fluconazole, contact your doctor immediately. Women who take fluconazole and who may become pregnant should consider using adequate birth control. Birth control should be continued for at least 1 week after taking the last dose of fluconazole.

Breast-feeding: Apo Fluconazole passes into breast milk. If you are a breast-feeding mother and are taking fluconazole, it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breast-feeding.

Children: Apo Fluconazole has been shown to be safe and effective for children over 6 months of age. Although the safety and effectiveness of Apo Fluconazole have not been determined for newborns less than 6 months of age, a small number of babies have been safely treated with fluconazole.
